The Murphy/Lucero Project Canciones de Amor (Songs of Love)   A Mexican/American Collaboration The eight selected love songs are written, arranged, and produced by Central New York composer James Robert Murphy who now resides in El Paso, TX. They are translated and sung in both Spanish and English by Juarez, Mexico native Joshua Lucero, a young man introduced to Mr. Murphy by University of Texas at El Paso Opera director, Cherry Duke. The Murphy/Lucero Project is part of the ongoing 2920 Sessions organized in El Paso, TX at El Rancho Pequeño. Mr. Lucero is joined by El Paso’s premier vocalist Monica Gutierrez on Two Flames Burning. Curt Bushaw on bass, and Ruben Gutierrez on piano, Fender Rhodes, and strings, where noted. Additional instrumentation is created and performed by Mr. Murphy.

Vocalist Joshua Lucero Juarez vocalist Joshua Lucero has been in love with the making of music his entire life. He distinctly remembers both singing as a child from the pews where the church choir would ring, and jamming out to 80's rock on his way home from school. These were the building blocks that have allowed Joshua to follow his calling and passion. Since then, he has graciously performed with the (UTEP) University of Texas at El Paso’s choir at the historic Plaza Theatre in downtown El Paso and with the UTEP Opera. He is currently an outstanding choir member at Saint Mark's methodist church.

Recent Releases: James Robert Murphy has released several notable recording projects (one per year since 2018) including, The Way Things Used To Be, a collection of early compositions from Murphy’s folk and Americana songbooks. That was followed by his debut into the world of jazz with, Jazz: The 2920 Sessions, and then the exquisite Park North, followed by the well-received jazz instrumental CD, Diddle. Murphy revisited his blues roots with the release of Blues Salad: The Avocado Sessions Part One, and Blues Salad: The Avocado Sessions Part Two - Raw Fingerpicking and Slide Guitar. And now, lucky #7, his most notable collaboration to date, Canciones de Amor (Songs of Love), with vocalist Joshua Lucero. BLBM Publishing, BMI.

About the project: I am an average vocalist. While I do sing, I do not sing beautifully. As mentioned, UTEP Opera director Cherry Duke introduced me to Joshua Lucero. He sang a couple of my compositions in English on my Jazz: The 2920 Sessions and Park North releases. Joshua has that beautiful voice we all wish we had. Then it hit me! Why don’t I have Joshua interpret a handful of my compositions and sing versions in both Spanish and English? My dream has come true. I then rearranged Two Flames Burning, from Jazz: The 2920 Sessions, and created a duet between Joshua and vocalist superstar Monica Gutierrez. This CD to me is a creative collaboration at its finest. 1 Donde Sea, Cuando Sea 2 Ése Tiempo Jamás Vendrá 3 Sentado Aquí, Cena Terminad 4 Dos Llamas Qué Arden 5 Cosas Han Estado Turbias 6 Canción Fara... 7 Era Amor 8 Tristeza del Gato Llorando (Poesía Beatnik) English 9 Wherever Whenever 10 That Time Will Never Come 11 Sittin’ Here Supper’s Done 12 Two Flames Burning 13 Things Have Been Stormy 14 Song For … 15 It Was Love 16 Cryin’ Cat Blues (Beatnik Poetry)
