  1. The Train Song
In cart Not available Out of stock

This is the original version of The Train Song. It was written in 1977 and recorded in Chillicothe, Ohio at the Recording Workshop on a 12-string guitar that I must have borrowed. I attend a six-week session at the Workshop to learn how to record. It was a great time. In the middle of this tune there is a progression that interprets the sound of a train racing down the tracks. It's a pretty neat part. My vocals are very deep on this track. It's funny to hear them.

Lyrics

Train come ’round the corner
goin’ to take me away
Train come ’round the corner
goin’ to take me away
My mamma don’t love me
and my papa don’t want me to stay

Woman done left me
for another man
Woman done left me
for another man
I gave her everything
I just don’t understand

Goin’ down to Orleans
learn to play the blues
Yes, I’m goin’ down to Orleans
learn to play the blues
After losin’ you, babe
I got nothin’ to lose

7:45
hear that whistle blow
It’s 7:45
hear that whistle blow
Fifteen more minutes
I’ll think of you no more

She’s a cool streamliner
with a ragin’ smokestack
She’s a cool streamliner
with a ragin’ smokestack
I got a ticket in my hand
and a tilt to my top hat
